CHRISTMAS TREE RINGS
Everything is Jewelry vol. 8
Tools and materials: wood slices from the trunks of small Christmas trees; coping saw; carving knife; power drill; spoon gouge; sandpaper (various grits); watercolors; paintbrush; water.
WEEK OF 05.19.25
Last year I had a little Everything is Jewelry hang at my place, and laid out pretty much all my tools and materials — leather and dried leaves, jump rings and pliers, beads and shells, etc etc etc — in the dining room for inspo. My friend Mika immediately nabbed the dusty sliced end of a mini Christmas tree (one of many I’d collected in years past from Sloat Garden Center nearby), and in a short afternoon fashioned herself an amazing ring. A tree ring! Too cool! I absolutely loved it. For this batch, I helped the process along by using a power drill to make a big hole in the center, then had at the holiday conifers with a coping saw, spoon gouge, and carving knife. Then I added some watercolor along the rings (and ridges) of the rings.
